What is the difference between Herron Park and the rest of the FTBT trail system?
Herron Park is owned by Flathead County and is managed by Flathead County Parks and Rec. Foys to Blacktail Trails partners with Flathead County Parks and Rec to help steward the trails in Herron Park by providing collaborative annual maintenance to the trails.
The “Foys to Blacktail Trails Trail System” consists of 40 miles of trail starting in Herron Park, extending south across private land easements, and through the Island Unit of the Swan District of the Flathead National Forest, terminating on Blacktail Mountain in Lakeside.
Who owns the land that the FTBT system is located on?
The Foys to Blacktail Trails Trail System is located on land owned by Flathead County, private landowners, and the US Forest Service
What sort of work happens on a regular basis to maintain the trails?
Foys to Blacktail Trails has a master trails maintenance plan for our entire trail system. Each year, different sections of the trail receive routine trail maintenance which can consist of tread/trail maintenance and repair, drain clearing to keep water off the trails, vegetation removal from the trail corridor (i.e. “brushing and/or line of sight clearing”, and invasive weed mitigation.

Who yields to who on the trails?
General courtesy on the trail and primary trail yield rule is if you see a horse, YIELD.

- Hikers and runners yield to horses

Why aren’t e-bikes allowed on the trails?
E-bikes are considered “motorized,” and all trails in Herron Park and in the FTBT Trails System are categorized as non-motorized use
